Good value Sat Nav,
Heavily discounted and very good value for money. Just completed a drving holiday to South of France and performance, if not French pronunciation, was excellent; especially through Paris. Easy to use and junction 3D detail accurate and clear.

|garmin 1440 sat nav,
After reading quite a number of reviews I decided this was the sat nav for me,an easy to use and very user friendly piece of kit with some very nice and useful features . On a recent trip to Brittany France it proved to be invaluable,I could not have managed without it as the local roads where a maze of twisting country lanes and a vast amount of roundabouts,it would have been a real nightmare without this great sat nav,In Britain it proved to be just as reliable.A very nice piece of equipment that I can thoroughly recommend .

|Pretty impressive SatNav.,
I have used TomTom car, bike and PDA satnavs for years and tend to use one most days. As I get older, I’d like something that is easier to see clearly and the Garmin was at a good price so I thought I’d give it a try. I also don’t want to be locked into a product that doesn’t allow me to use independent POI suppliers.
The good – 5 inch screen is great and you can see more of the map, you can load custom POIs (e.g. speed cams) via the POI Loader app. This model has a BluTooth connection for hands-free calls, however the mike is dependent on the ambient noise levels in the car. There are probably less user configurable options available when compared to TomTom.
The not so good – configuring POIs with warnings is not as straight forward as with TomTom and requires some internet research but the info is out there. There aren’t as many settings on this model as on similarly priced TomTom models e.g. if you don’t like the default colour schemes then tough. All custom POIs are loaded in one go and overwrite what was there previously – you can’t just toggle them on or off easily. TomTom models plan (marginally) quicker and more direct routes.
In summary, I don’t regret getting this model at this price. It can occasionally lose itself briefly (but so can TomTom), it isn’t idiot proof and can send you the wrong way (neither is TomTom). Map updates are always out of date (so are TomTom’s). In my view the perfect SatNav would be a mixture of the best features of the TomTom and Garmin Nuvi models and would be reasonably priced (and it doesn’t exist) and that’s why I give it 4 stars.
